There is a thriving pub session and singaround scene on the Island, with a variety to suit all tastes. But a couple of years ago Bob Russell identified a need for a club for those with a love of the traditional songs and music drawn solely from the vast resources of the British Isles. An environment was also needed where even the quitest of songs could be listened to and properly appreciated.
From its start at Calbourne the Club is now well established at The Castle Inn in Newport.
We meet on the second Friday of each month when resident M.C.s Andy Jackson and Jillie Hambley try to make sure that everyone gets a song or two. With this in mind we gather at 8 and start proceedings promptly at 8:15.
We hope we have created an atmosphere of friendly involvement, where even those who may be slightly nervous can be sure of an encouraging audience and if they are not quite 'note perfect' they won't die of shame.
