The Isle of Wight has two large capacity theatres - Medina and Shanklin.
There are some smaller halls such as Freshwater Memorial Hall (200+ seaters).
Local promoters, Vaguely Sunny Promotions, use churches and village halls to create a more intimate atmosphere for their smaller or home-grown concerts.
A large number of public houses, hotels and restaurants on the island host regular gigs and sessions all year round. These pubs have helped support music of all genres for many years.
The Quay Arts Centre in Newport is a popular venue with its 130 seater theatre and cafe area, hosting folk, blues, jazz, acousitc evenings and open mic poetry and music evenings.
There is one folk festival on the island each year - FolkStation, held at Havenstreet Steam Railway. FolkStation is a growing event with music, sessions and dancing from far and awide. 2011 will be a good year for the festival, with Isambarde and Wheeler Street headlining.
